It’s so nice to get out from behind the computer a bit this week. Wedding season takes off in another two weeks, but in the meantime, we’re having fun with some local Southwest Michigan engagement sessions. Wednesday evening I had the opportunity to meet Bae and Ben at Ben’s parents’ farm in Eau Claire where the couple will be saying their I dos underneath a beautiful catalpa tree in early June. As much as I love photographing weddings here in Southwest Michigan, my efforts to convince Australia native, Bae, to wed south of the equator were not successful. The wedding and reception in the family’s barn nestled inside a charming orchard will, none-the-less, be lovely. We finished up with a twilight shoot where the resident cat at the farm decided he wanted his picture taken too. I’m told Carmello spends much of his time on the roof but no one really knows how he gets up there. All the flashing lights must have intrigued him enough to come down and make an appearance. It was a fun engagement shoot and I can’t wait to be part of the the festivities in early June.

Danielle & Greg | Notre Dame and Palais Royale Wedding | Part II

If you didn’t happen to catch part I of Danielle and Greg’s fall wedding at the University of Notre Dame, make sure to catch up here. After a brief walking tour to some of the great photo hot spots on campus including the Golden Dome and the Grotto, we met the newlyweds at the always beautiful Palais Royale ballroom in downtown South Bend.

Jessica and Marc’s St. Joe Wedding :: Shadowland Ballroom and Silver Beach Carousel

Meeting newly engaged couples through mutual friends is often a fun part of my job. I first unknowingly photographed Jessica’s mother at the New Year’s Eve celebration in 2009 shortly after the grand opening of the Shadowland Ballroom and Silver Beach Carousel. Later we learned through family friends that Jessica and Marc were planning a June 2011 boardwalk-themed wedding at Shadowland and were, of course, honored to photograph their wedding day.

There was no shortage of fun-filled activities for Jessica and Marc’s guests to enjoy. The reception was complete with carousel rides for all of their guests, cotton candy made on-site, a gelato cart, late-night pizza from Silver Beach Pizza and a photobooth. The highlight of the evening, however, was a surprise special guest arranged by the bride. Marc is a graduate of Michigan State and all of his family members were HUGE State fans. The Michigan State mascot, Sparty himself, made a grand entrance mid-reception and spent several hours dancing with guests, squeezing into the photo booth and taking rides on the Michigan State carousel horse. It was an evening not to be forgotten by all who attended.

Danielle & Greg | Notre Dame Wedding Photography | Part I

I’m not entirely sure how I end up being lucky enough to shoot a wedding on the nicest fall day imaginable at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart several years running, but 2011 was no exception. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but there’s really nothing like a beautiful autumn day on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. I am, of course, a little biased as it brings back a lot of fond memories. The first Saturday of November last year turned out to be the perfect day for Danielle and Greg’s wedding in South Bend.

Basilica of the Sacred Heart | Notre Dame Wedding Photographer

Going on vacation in the middle of the summer can be a bit of a challenge for a busy wedding photographer. We packed the kids up and took a lengthy car ride to Maine for a much needed, relaxing vacation in Boothbay Harbor at the beginning of July. While I was gone, associate photographer, Melissa Brentlinger, had the honor of photographing a beautiful wedding on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Claire and Justin tied the knot on July 9th at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart which is always one of our favorite locations to photograph weddings locally.

Stunning florals of yellow and ivory were provided by Michael Angelos of South Bend.

The ceremony was followed by a lovely reception at the Palais Royale with entertainment provided by Blake “DJ Sticky Boots” Eckelbarger of The Music Place.
